Stories from a former superyacht worker often challenge the glamorous image people associate with luxury yachts and billionaire lifestyles. While many imagine champagne parties and breathtaking views across the Mediterranean, the reality can be far more demanding. Raissa Bellini, who spent five years working as a stewardess, traveled through destinations like Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, and Ibiza. Despite the stunning locations, she explained that life behind the scenes required constant effort and professionalism.
Working on a superyacht meant maintaining a perfect image at all times. Guests expected five-star service, and crew members worked long hours to meet those expectations. The busy season, typically lasting from spring to early autumn, left little time for rest. Living and working in close quarters added to the intensity, as crew members were often away from family for months without a real break from their responsibilities.
Bellini also noticed how behavior could change once guests were at sea. Some individuals who appeared reserved on land became more relaxed or pushed boundaries in private settings. Crew members were trained to remain polite and discreet, even in uncomfortable situations. A strong culture of secrecy reinforced this, as protecting guest privacy was considered essential for maintaining a career in the industry.
Although the job offered travel and unique experiences, it could also feel isolating. Small shared cabins, constant work, and limited personal space made it difficult to unwind. In the end, Bellini said the experience revealed that extreme wealth does not change people but often exposes their true character, offering a deeper understanding of human behavior behind the luxury.
