The Boomtown Rats’ Bob Geldof, who organized the 1985 Live Aid benefit concert after seeing BBC reports about the famine in Ethiopia, singing and pointing into the crowd.
During the show, Geldof said to the audience, “Take the money out of your pocket. Don’t go to the pub tonight. Please, stay in and give us the money. There are people dying now so give me the money. And here’s the numbers.”
The TV presenter then gave the postal address for donations, prompting Geldof to say, “F**k the address, let’s get the numbers.” Geldof has often been infamously misquoted here, though, as saying, “Give us the f**king money.”

An estimated 72,000 people attended Wembley Stadium in London for the Live Aid concert, with another 89,000 people in attendance at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia.

Yates met Bob Geldof when she was 18 and joined The Boomtown Rats on tour, entering into a relationship with Geldof shortly after.
