The diagnosis came before any doctor spoke: a fungal infection spread almost always through close, skin-to-skin contact. Not from a keyboard. Not from a handshake. Not from a detergent aisle at the supermarket. In that moment, the pattern on his skin aligned perfectly with the pattern of his lies. She didn’t need lab results; she needed honesty. In the end, the rash faded. The trust never did. Some scars, after all, aren’t visible at all.
