Why Jon Cryer Called Donald Trump the “Charlie Sheen of Politics”

After Jon Cryer called President Donald Trump the “Charlie Sheen of politics” in 2016, he recently expressed that grouping his Two and a Half Mencostar with the politician would actually be unfair.

Jon Cryer would prefer to have his Two and a Half Men costar in the Oval Office.

Indeed, nine years after naming President Donald Trump the “Charlie Sheen of politics,” the 60-year-old recently doubled down on the sentiment—with a twist in support of his former onscreen brother.

“To be clear,” Jon said during an April 23 episode of The MeidasTouch Podcast, “as many of the issues that Charlie faces, I do think he’d be a better president.”

Jon and Charlie (real name Carlos Estevez) had a public fallout in the early 2010s, after the Platoonactor was fired from the CBS sitcom and subsequently replaced by Ashton Kutcher. And at the time, Jon attributed their conflicts to Charlie’s struggles with substance abuse and resulting erratic behavior.

Even so, the Pretty in Pink actor expressed his opinion that lumping his former costar in the same category as Trump wouldn’t necessarily be fair to him.

“The thing I was pointing out was that, at the time when I made that comment, Charlie was still just going off and saying whatever stupid tiger blood comments he was making,” he explained. “And Trump has always been comfortable with saying whatever stupid thing he said because people wrote him off as harmless and didn’t hold him responsible for those things.”

But when it came to Trump’s behavior, Jon admitted that the president’s comfortability speaking his mind is “part of his allure to the people.”

“They think ‘oh that’s him being authentic,’” he continued. “He’s that old guy at the end of the bar who thinks he knows how the world should work, but he’s really kind of a loser.”

E! News has reached out to The White House as well as Charlie’s reps for comment but has not heard back.
