My hands started shaking. I unlocked my phone and showed her my wallpaper—a photo of Malcolm, Tess, and me. “This Malcolm?” I asked.
Her face drained of color. “That’s your husband?” When I nodded, she whispered the words that shattered everything: “He’s my son’s father too.” My husband hadn’t simply been unfaithful. He had another child I knew nothing about.
That night, I confronted Malcolm. There was no dramatic denial. He admitted the affair, admitted the child was his, and admitted he had tried to “handle it” by keeping our lives completely separate. Every answer destroyed another piece of the marriage I thought we had.
Now, with only weeks remaining before my baby arrives, I’m researching divorce lawyers while preparing for an entirely different future. My children didn’t choose any of this, and neither did his other child. I can’t change what Malcolm did, but I can decide what comes next. The woman at that pottery class never intended to unravel my world. She was simply telling her story—and somehow, in the most unlikely place imaginable, her story turned out to be part of mine.
