I stepped out into the yard today expecting a normal afternoon, but something immediately caught my attention. A cable that was supposed to be buried underground was suddenly sitting right on the surface. At first, I thought maybe it had been disturbed somehow or even damaged, but there were no signs of digging or recent work around it.

After taking a closer look, the reason became surprisingly clear. A tree root had slowly grown beneath the cable over time, gradually lifting it upward until it finally broke through the surface. It wasn’t something that happened overnight—it was the result of steady, unnoticed growth happening below ground where you rarely think to look.

It’s actually pretty fascinating when you stop and think about it. Tree roots are incredibly persistent. They don’t rush or force things, but over time, they can move soil, crack pavement, and even shift things like cables that seem fixed in place. It’s a quiet kind of strength that builds slowly until the results become visible.

Now it’s a reminder to pay more attention to what’s happening beneath the surface, not just in the yard but in general. Things can change without you noticing, and by the time you do, the impact is already there. Definitely something I didn’t expect to find today, but it made me look at my yard—and nature—a little differently. 🌳
