Born in Pasadena, California, on December 3, 1943, Harmon built her career gradually through dedication and versatility. Her breakthrough came during the 1970s, when soap operas dominated daytime television and demanded intense emotional performances from actors working under fast-paced schedules. Her portrayal of Cathy Craig Lord on One Life to Live from 1976 to 1978 became one of her most celebrated roles and earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1978.

Beyond television, Harmon became an impressive force on Broadway, appearing in 21 productions over the course of her career. Her stage credits included Blithe SpiritThe Little Foxes, and The Glass Menagerie. She also served as an understudy for legendary actresses including Judi Dench and Jessica Lange, reflecting the immense respect she earned within the theater community.
