78-year-old Susan Sarandon criticized for her clothing

Susan Sarandon has long stood out as one of the defining performers of her era — not only for her commanding screen presence, but also for her unapologetic voice off camera. And when critics recently took aim at her personal choices, she responded in a way only she could: decisively and without a single word of explanation.

With a career spanning decades, Sarandon remains a formidable force in Hollywood. Her breakout performance as Janet Weiss in The Rocky Horror Picture Show established her as a daring and versatile talent. She later captivated audiences again in Thelma & Louise, a role that earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Her Oscar win eventually came for her powerful portrayal in Dead Man Walking, solidifying her legacy as one of the industry’s most respected actresses.

Beyond her filmography, Sarandon has consistently championed body positivity and self-expression. Known for her fearless fashion choices and outspoken advocacy, she has never shied away from controversy.

That confidence was on full display during a red carpet appearance where she wore a white jacket paired with a black bra — a look that quickly sparked debate. One journalist went so far as to label the outfit “totally inappropriate.”

Rather than issuing a public rebuttal, Sarandon let imagery do the talking. She shared a vintage photo of herself in her underwear, confidently embracing her figure. The message was clear: she defines what is appropriate for herself — no one else.

The actress has also been candid about aging and perspective. Reflecting on the passage of time, she once said, “When your sense of time has an ending and isn’t finite, like how it feels when you’re young.” She added, “When you have an understanding that time is precious—you have a tendency not to waste energy on the small stuff and only to surround yourself with people who are vital, curious, brave, and adventurous.”

As for her approach to maintaining her appearance, Sarandon keeps it straightforward. “If you want to age gracefully, probably laugh a lot, and get the normal amount of exercise, and eat well and stay out of the sun would be the main things,” Sarandon stated. She also acknowledged the value of a skilled beauty team in helping her maintain her polished look.

At 79, Sarandon continues to move to her own rhythm, undeterred by critics and steadfast in her beliefs. Her response to detractors serves as a reminder that confidence, authenticity, and self-assurance rarely require justification.
