His comfort with closeness was not about knowing every move. His ability to read a room came from respecting boundaries, and his refusal came from understanding that people were never trophies. She smiled and said his answer was better than expected. He laughed softly. “Maybe,” he said, “the real sign of experience is understanding what not to do.”
