Eye Test: Count The Tomatoes.

At first glance, counting the tomatoes on this plate seems ridiculously easy. They’re all right there in front of you—bright red, round, and packed closely together. But start counting, and you might suddenly stop and wonder: “Wait… did I count that one already?”

That’s what makes this simple visual challenge surprisingly tricky. Because the tomatoes have similar colors, shapes, and sizes, your brain may naturally group them together instead of processing each one separately. Some also overlap or sit partly behind others, making it easy to accidentally skip one.

Before checking the answer, try a simple strategy. Start with the tomato at the top and count slowly from left to right. Then move through the middle before checking the bottom and edges of the plate. Keeping a clear pattern can help prevent you from counting the same tomato twice.

If your first answer was 12, take another look—you may have overlooked a couple hiding among the crowded shapes. If you counted 13, you’re extremely close, but there’s still another one waiting to be noticed.

Ready for the answer?

There are 14 tomatoes on the plate!

Did you spot all 14 immediately, or did you have to count them more than once?

Visual puzzles like this aren’t scientific tests of intelligence or eyesight, but they’re a fun way to challenge your attention to detail.

How many did YOU count on your first try—12, 13, or 14?
