Which Body Type Are You

The three somatotype labels came from an older classification system and are still widely used in fitness culture. They can describe general appearance, but most people do not fit neatly into a single category. Someone may be naturally slim yet build muscle easily, while another person may have a broader frame but respond extremely well to endurance training.

The wrist-and-finger method mainly reflects wrist circumference relative to hand size. It does not accurately measure metabolic rate, body-fat percentage, muscle-building potential, hormones, or how easily someone will gain or lose weight.

Genetics certainly influence height, bone structure, fat distribution, and muscle potential, but lifestyle matters enormously too. Food intake, resistance training, daily movement, sleep, age, medications, and health conditions can all affect body composition over time.

So if you enjoy using ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph as broad descriptions, that is fine. Just don’t let the label dictate what you think your body can achieve. A more useful approach is to track how your own body responds to training, nutrition, recovery, and consistent habits. Your wrist may tell you something about frame size, but it cannot predict your fitness future.
