The mistake is hidden on the snowy ground.
Look carefully behind the dog. Its paw prints are clearly visible in the snow, showing exactly where it has been walking.
Now look behind the man.
Despite walking through the same snowy area, the man has left no footprints at all. His shoes should naturally create tracks just as the dog’s paws do, yet the snow behind him appears untouched.
That’s the inconsistency the puzzle wants you to notice. Once you see it, it suddenly seems obvious—but until then, your attention is easily distracted by the man, dog, wood, fence, and surrounding countryside.
