At first glance, this visual puzzle seems almost ridiculously simple. Look at the picture. Count the pigeons. Give your answer. Done. But then someone else looks at the exact same image and gives you a completely different number. So you look again—and suddenly notice a shape you somehow missed the first time.
That is what makes simple observation puzzles so entertaining. They aren’t scientifically valid personality or intelligence tests, and seeing five, seven, or nine pigeons doesn’t determine your IQ, creativity, or personality. What the puzzle can demonstrate is something much simpler: human attention is selective. Take one quick look and remember your first answer. Maybe you saw five. Maybe seven. Maybe nine. Whatever number came to mind, keep it there. Now slow down, scan the entire picture carefully from one side to the other, and count again. Did your answer change?
