At first glance, this farm puzzle seems incredibly simple. The picture tells you that you have 3 cows, 2 dogs, and 1 cat, then asks one straightforward question: How many legs do you have? Most people immediately begin counting the animals because the cows, dogs, and cat are right there in front of them.
If you follow that approach, three cows have 12 legs, two dogs have 8 legs, and one cat has 4 legs. Add everything together and you get 24 animal legs. It seems like the obvious answer, and it’s easy to feel confident about it. But look carefully at the exact wording of the question. It doesn’t actually ask how many legs the animals have.
