This Everyday Drink May Affect Your Liver Health Even If You Have Never Consumed Alcohol

When most people hear the words “liver damage,” they immediately think about alcohol. But what if something sitting in your refrigerator could also influence your liver health over time? Many people enjoy their favorite beverages every day without giving much thought to what happens after they drink them. Surprisingly, researchers have identified a connection between certain popular drinks and an increased risk of liver-related health problems.

Your liver works constantly, processing nutrients, regulating energy, and helping your body remove unwanted substances. However, some everyday dietary habits can make its job more difficult. One particular ingredient, commonly found in beverages enjoyed by millions, may contribute to fat accumulating inside liver cells when consumed frequently.

A large observational study published in 2023 followed nearly 99,000 postmenopausal women over approximately 21 years. Researchers found that women who regularly consumed certain beverages had higher rates of serious liver-related outcomes. Although the study couldn’t prove that the drinks directly caused these conditions, the findings raised important questions about long-term consumption.

What makes this especially important is that fatty liver disease can develop even in people who rarely or never drink alcohol. It may also progress without obvious symptoms, meaning some individuals remain unaware of the condition.

So which familiar drinks deserve a closer look, and what simple changes might help protect your long-term health?
