The next day, the man arrived at his father-in-law’s house wearing an innocent smile. He had spent the entire morning imagining how angry the older gentleman must have been after discovering his damaged car. Secretly, he was rather proud of himself. After all, he believed he had managed to escape an embarrassing encounter while getting a little revenge at the same time.

But when his father-in-law opened the door, something seemed wrong. The older man looked exhausted and irritated. His arms were crossed, and he was muttering under his breath. Trying not to laugh, the son-in-law asked, “What’s the matter? You look like you’ve had a terrible day.” His father-in-law sighed heavily. “You wouldn’t believe what happened yesterday,” he replied. The younger man leaned forward, eagerly waiting to hear about the broken mirrors.

“Well, yesterday afternoon,” the father-in-law began, “my wife asked if she could borrow my car. I gave her the keys because she said she had somewhere important to go. A few hours later, she came home looking perfectly normal, parked the car in the driveway, and went inside.” The son-in-law nodded, wondering where the story was going. Then the older man shook his head in frustration. “But when I went outside, I discovered that both side mirrors had been smashed! She claims she has absolutely no idea how it happened!”

For several seconds, the son-in-law couldn’t speak. His smile disappeared as he remembered the hotel parking lot, the familiar car, and the woman he had assumed was safely at home. His father-in-law continued complaining about the damage, completely unaware of why his visitor had suddenly turned pale. The younger man had gone to the hotel hoping to keep his own secret hidden, only to discover that he might have stumbled into an entirely different mystery. And the funniest part? He couldn’t ask a single question without revealing exactly where he had been the previous afternoon!
