During his cabinet meeting in cabinet, Trump suggested major cities, like Chicago and New York could be safer with the National Guard in place and said he never wanted them to leave Washington DC.
“They love doing it. It’s like training,” he said of guard members.
“I never want to take them out of DC, I mean maybe somebody later on will do it but I never want to take [them out].”
“You know, people they say, ‘We feel so good, we feel so safe. We see these beautiful strong people and they’re so nice.’

“They open the doors for people, they carry bags, they pick up paper when they see paper on the ground.”
Trump announced a crackdown on c**me in DC, deploying the National Guard on August 11, 2025.
“I’m announcing a historic action to rescue our nation’s capital from crime, bloodshed, bedlam and squalor and worse,” Trump said in August when he sent guards to DC.
He called August 11 ‘Liberation day in DC’ saying, “we’re going to take our capital back.”
