It started with a single empty soda can lying among my roses. I assumed the wind had carried it there, tossed it into recycling, and forgot about it. Then another appeared, followed by another. Eventually, while gardening one afternoon, I watched my neighbor Greg finish his soda, crush the can, and deliberately throw it over the hedge into my flower bed.
I asked him politely to stop, but Greg laughed and told me I was being too sensitive. The next morning, two more cans appeared. Instead of arguing again, I began collecting them. I rinsed and dried every can before storing them in boxes inside my garage. Soon I had 23, then 48, and eventually 86 cans. My husband kept asking what I intended to do with them, but I simply told him to wait. Then an invitation arrived for Greg’s daughter’s engagement party, and suddenly I knew exactly what to do.
