Normally I’m pretty good about our local spiders, but this one has me stumped.

This is the third one I’ve found inside my house this summer, and each encounter has left me scratching my head. It’s familiar enough that it looks like it belongs here, yet different enough that I can’t confidently put a name to it.

If you’re someone who enjoys observing wildlife—or if you’ve ever stopped to examine an unexpected eight-legged visitor—you probably know the feeling. Sometimes nature throws you a puzzle that reminds you just how much there is still to learn.

Its body proportions looked different.

The coloration wasn’t quite what I expected.
