Restore a Strong, Even Flame: A Safe, Step-by-Step Stove Cleaning Guide

A weak or uneven burner flame is often a sign of buildup blocking the gas ports. Grease, dust, and cooking residue can restrict airflow and reduce efficiency. The first step is to approach the task safely and methodically—turn off the stove completely, allow all parts to cool, and ensure the gas supply is shut off before you begin.

To loosen grime, remove the burner caps and grates, then apply a small amount of a metal-safe cleaner to the affected areas. Let it sit briefly so it can break down residue. For the ports and openings, use a non-metal tool—such as a wooden skewer or similar—to gently clear debris. Avoid forcing anything into the openings, as this can damage components or widen the ports.

Once the buildup is loosened, wipe all parts with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel. Make sure everything is fully dry before reassembling, as moisture can affect ignition and performance. When putting the pieces back in place, align them correctly so the flame can distribute evenly across the burner.

After reassembly, turn the gas back on and test the flame. It should appear steady and consistent. For best results, repeat this light maintenance every few months and use only cleaners suitable for metal surfaces. Regular care helps maintain efficiency, supports safer operation, and keeps your stove performing reliably over time.
