A Christian and an atheist lived next door to each other and disagreed about almost everything concerning faith. One evening, the Christian stood outside and prayed loudly, asking God to send food because there was almost nothing left in the house. The atheist overheard the prayer and called back from his yard, insisting that no God was listening. The Christian ignored him, finished praying, and went inside.
The following morning, the Christian opened the front door and froze. Several bags of groceries were sitting neatly on the porch. Delighted, the Christian lifted both hands and shouted, “Thank You, Lord, for providing this food!” Suddenly, the atheist jumped from behind some bushes, laughing triumphantly. He had secretly bought the groceries himself and had been waiting for this exact moment. “Your God didn’t send those groceries,” he announced proudly. “I bought them!” The Christian stared at him for a moment—then looked upward and began another prayer.
