The home was constructed in 1977, during a period when rising energy costs encouraged some Americans to rethink traditional building methods.
Its creator had a remarkable idea: Why not use the earth itself to help regulate indoor temperatures?

Deep inside the home, the original builder incorporated an extraordinary collection of natural stones gathered during family trips.
