Tisha Campbell has revealed that she was diagnosed with autism and ADHD at 57, giving her a new framework for understanding experiences that may have been part of her life for decades. A diagnosis in adulthood does not necessarily mean a condition recently developed. For neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and ADHD, traits and symptoms generally begin earlier in life, even when they aren’t formally recognized until much later.

For many adults, getting an explanation can come after years of adapting to challenges involving attention, communication, behavior or sensory experiences. Some people may have developed ways to manage those differences without realizing there was an underlying condition, while others may have had symptoms that simply weren’t recognized when they were younger.
