The sirens screamed as the sky ripped open. The storm didn’t arrive—it attacked. Within minutes, streets disappeared beneath rushing water, power lines went dark, and violent winds began tearing apart everything people thought was safe. Parents grabbed their children and rushed toward higher ground. Neighbors shouted warnings from windows. Strangers pounded on doors, searching for elderly residents and anyone trapped inside. In the darkness, with only flickering phone screens lighting terrified faces, one question spread faster than the storm itself: Where do we go now?
Then someone noticed a faint light glowing through the rain several blocks away. It wasn’t a streetlamp or a house. It appeared to be coming from an old community building that had stood abandoned for years. Desperate families began moving toward it, carrying children, pets, blankets, and whatever belongings they could save. The rising water pushed them forward, leaving little choice but to keep going.
When they finally reached the building, they discovered something unexpected. The windows were dark, but a single light burned somewhere deep inside. The main entrance was locked, and nobody could find another way in.
Then, just as the crowd began wondering whether they had made a terrible mistake, everyone heard it.
Three slow, deliberate knocks came from the other side of the locked door.
The crowd fell completely silent.
Then came a fourth knock.
