They Laughed at My Prom Dress—Then a Man in Uniform Knocked on the Door

Fans of Wheel of Fortune are once again expressing their opinions online after a contestant just barely lost out on a huge payout — this time due to a Bonus Round puzzle that many viewers thought was unexpectedly simple.

Contestant Shanquetta Cato excelled throughout the episode, quickly establishing herself as the top player of the evening with a series of remarkable puzzle solutions and assured gameplay. By the time she got to the final round, she had already accumulated almost $30,000 in cash and prizes, which included two tropical getaways.

From the very beginning, Cato seemed almost invincible.

She sailed through the initial rounds while her rivals struggled to find their footing, establishing a significant lead with each puzzle she tackled. Her series of victories included a lavish trip to Costa Rica worth nearly $10,000, in addition to thousands more in cash prizes.

Cato maintained her winning momentum during the Mystery Round, where she adeptly solved the prize puzzle and secured yet another vacation — this time to Antigua. By the conclusion of the main game, she entered the Bonus Round with over $27,000 in total winnings and the self-assurance of someone ready for an even greater triumph.

For the ultimate challenge, Cato chose the category “Phrase” and joined the new host Ryan Seacrest at the wheel. Seacrest commended her impressive performance throughout the episode, humorously suggesting that she could teach a course on how to excel at the game. After presenting her college friend to the audience, Cato confronted the crucial Bonus Round puzzle. Adhering to the show’s usual letter reveal process, she chose more consonants and a vowel, aiming to complete the missing letters.

The board ultimately showed a partially filled three-word phrase that said:

“_ O _ G O T L _ _ _ _”

At home, numerous viewers quickly thought the answer was close at hand. However, with the clock ticking down, Cato found it challenging to assemble the phrase. As the 10-second countdown came to an end, she made several attempts but couldn’t find the right answer in time. When the buzzer went off, co-host Vanna White announced the solution: “YOU GOT LUCKY.”
