Why many experts advise against sleeping with

Many people believe sleeping with a slightly open window improves rest. Fresh air can feel calming, creating a sense of comfort and relaxation as you drift off. It’s a habit many adopt without giving it much thought, especially during warmer nights when airflow seems essential for a good night’s sleep.

However, some health experts suggest that keeping windows open overnight may carry hidden drawbacks. While the idea of fresh air is appealing, it can also introduce elements that negatively affect both your health and sleep quality. Noise, allergens, and outdoor pollutants can quietly disrupt your rest without you realizing it.

One of the main concerns is exposure to temperature fluctuations. As the night progresses, outdoor temperatures can drop unexpectedly. These changes can interfere with your body’s ability to regulate heat, causing subtle awakenings throughout the night. Even if you don’t fully wake up, your sleep may become lighter and less restorative.

Instead of relying on an open window, there are alternative ways to maintain air quality while protecting your sleep. Proper ventilation earlier in the evening, air purifiers, or maintaining a stable room temperature can all help create a more controlled and comfortable sleeping environment, leading to deeper and more consistent rest.
