I had come home desperate for rest, only to feel as if my safe place had been violated. Those small, pale ovals on the carpet seemed loaded with menace, and my imagination eagerly supplied the horror. I zoomed in on photos, compared them to images online, and fed my own fear with every search result. The uncertainty was heavier than anything I might have actually found.
When I finally learned they were gecko eggs, the panic dissolved into something almost tender. What I’d framed as an invasion was, in truth, a fragile act of life unfolding quietly in my room. Moving the eggs gently outside, I felt less like a victim and more like a witness. That night, I understood how quickly fear fills the gaps in what we don’t know—and how often the unknown is simply nature asking to be seen.
