The phone rang at exactly 7 a.m. I was making coffee when my bank manager told me something that made my stomach drop.
A credit card with a $100,000 limit had been opened in my name, and someone had already spent more than $55,000.
There was just one problem.
I had never applied for that card.
Twenty-five minutes later, I arrived at the bank carrying my identification. But when I walked through the doors, I stopped.
My parents and younger sister, Tessa, were already waiting.
Mom looked relieved. Dad seemed irritated. Tessa was staring at her phone.
Apparently, they expected me to approve another $45,000 transfer to fund Tessa’s new business.
When I demanded an explanation, Dad replied, “You have the money. Your sister needs help.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
Then the bank manager showed me the application.
My mother’s phone number was listed as mine, and the signature wasn’t mine either.
But the biggest shock came when Dad reached into his jacket and pulled out another document.
