At first glance, this egg puzzle looks almost too easy. A frying pan is filled with several bright yellow yolks surrounded by overlapping egg whites, and the challenge seems simple: count the eggs and give your answer. But look too quickly and your eyes may fool you. Some people immediately say six, while others count nine. A few even wonder whether a tenth egg might be hidden underneath the others.
The confusion comes from the way the eggs overlap. Several yolks sit close together, and two near the bottom are touching so closely that they can appear to be one larger yolk. Instead of guessing, try counting each clearly visible yolk separately. Start at the top and work slowly around the pan so you do not count anything twice—or accidentally skip one.
