When you enter your hotel room, switch off the lights and use your phone camera to scan around. It can help you notice any hidden cameras.
Block the door with something heavy like a chair or small table. If you can’t move anything, hang a cup or spoon on the handle so it will make noise if someone tries to open the door.
If you’re alone, you can leave the key inside the door after locking it to stop anyone from using a spare key. But don’t do this if you’re with someone you don’t fully trust.
Let someone know where you are. You can call a friend in front of the receptionist and clearly mention the hotel name.
Before sleeping, you can play a recorded conversation through a speaker so it sounds like you’re talking to someone. This can scare off intruders.
Check under the bed and around the room to be sure no one is hiding.
It’s safer to bring your own towel and toiletries instead of using the hotel’s.
Don’t sleep naked, in case of emergency.
Be careful with underground hotel rooms—they may not be safe.
Try to pay with ATM or transfer so there is a record. If a hotel refuses, be careful.
Say your prayers before sleeping. Stay safe.
