Without missing a beat, the Christian smiled and said, “Lord, thank You for sending me the groceries—and for making the atheist pay for them!” The neighbor’s victorious expression disappeared immediately. He had planned the entire stunt to prove his point, but somehow his own generosity had become part of the Christian’s gratitude. Neither neighbor changed his beliefs that morning, yet the exchange became the kind of story they would probably tell for years.
Another misunderstanding happened when two boys stole a large bag of oranges and slipped into a cemetery to divide them privately. While climbing over the gate, they accidentally dropped two oranges outside. Inside, they began counting their fruit: “One for me, one for you…” A man passing nearby heard their voices and became convinced something supernatural was happening. Terrified, he hurried to fetch a priest, telling him that God and Satan were dividing the dead.
The priest followed him back to the cemetery. Hidden outside the gate, both men listened nervously as the counting continued. Then everything suddenly became silent. One boy finally said, “Okay, that’s all of these. What about the two at the gate?” The priest misunderstood completely. Believing they meant him and his companion, he turned and ran faster than the startled man beside him.
And then there is the classic computer joke. Jesus and Satan competed to see who could accomplish more on a computer in two hours. Minutes before time expired, a storm knocked out the electricity. Satan panicked because all his work disappeared. When power returned, Jesus calmly began printing everything he had completed. Furious, Satan demanded to know why Jesus had lost nothing. God simply gave the answer that turned the entire story into a punchline: “Jesus saves.”
